Like most creative people, I spent most of my school time doodling over my school books to ease the boredom of acedemic classes. Years later drawing, painting and 'doodling' was my evening activity in front of the TV after a long day at the office. Even on my solo travels across the USA, Australia & New Zealand, I always had a drawing pad stashed in my rucksack to deal with moments of reflection and solitude. In all honesty, creativity has saved me from myself, which as contradictory as it sounds is also beautiful and comforting. I hope that everyone finds that thing that they are passionate about and brings joy and meaning to their lives.
I have never been afraid of a blank page of paper staring up at me. Some days ideas flood my head and I have no option but to get them them out just to clear my mind. Other times I just pick up a pen or pencil and let the picture create itself with little thought or control. Many of these ideas get lost or forgotten in the chaos that is everyday life, kids and work, but sometimes something a bit more meaningful comes along. Whether it's a gift for a friend, a competition or a paid project, the thrill of doing something I love for someone else is exciting and sometimes even a little bit nerve wracking. Whatever the project, and whatever the outcome, at the end there's always that feeling of acheivement and that I have learnt something from the process.
You don't need expensive materials to be creative. Sometimes just a pen and paper will do.

Another day... another doodle!
I got a bit carried away with our table tennis bats.
When our local playground was being redesigned, the city put out a notice for members of the public to send in ideas. I couldn't resist the opportunity to get a few designs on to paper. Although I was not involved in any of the professional planning of the playground, I was still very excited to see inspiration taken from one of my ideas in the end result.
