I love the challenge of rescuing things that are old, broken or simply no longer wanted. In Freiburg I often come across furniture on the side of the street ready to be picked up for the 'Sperrmull' or boxes filled with small items and a kind note 'zu verschenken' written on. It fills me with excitement each day to see what treasures I might find and how I can use my creativity to give something a new life.

This christmas star which has been cut from a tree stump was on sale at my daughter's school bazaar. It had been reduced in price as the wood was already starting to split. I started working on it weeks later thinking that it was enough time to dry through, but after filling the crack it still kept splitting. I solved the problem by adding lights. Acrylic paints were used as well as gold leaf, clay for the eye and drips, attached with super strength glue.

My daughter's bike basket was looking old and colour was coming off in places. I decided to update it with various coloured wool, ribbon and artificial flowers. Finished with a weatherproofing spray.

My husband was given an animal skull by a seller at a fleamarket who was desperate to get rid of it. Of course he thought of his wife... hehe! The background is an old painting on wood which was painted over with black and gold acrylic paint. Old jewellery from my mum added with artificial flowers. Antlers painted with gold acrylic paint.

Another animal skull. This one I found discarded on the side of the street. Upcycled using William Morris design serviettes and gold paint for the antlers.
