What is Upcycling?
Dictionary defination... "to reuse (discarded objects or material) in such a way as to create a product of higher quality or value than the original"
Upcycling is a process which takes old, used, unwanted articles to update them and create a fresh new look or purpose. Anything from clothes, books, bottles, broken crockery or wall tiles... instead of landing in the local tip or put out for the "Sperrmüll" can be rescued and brought back to life. Old unwanted furniture is often thrown out because it doesnt fit to the modern times, but it can often be updated with a simple furniture make-over. Often there will be a bit of work involved, repairing any damage or sanding down to create a paintable surface, but then, with a lick of paint and a bit of imagination a new life can begin!
Upcycling is a great way to minimize waste and to create your new favourite thing exactly how you want it. The power of creativity is yours and the possibilities are endless!

After... a UFO made from various old materials
'Legs' made from old metal parts found in a box in the cellar. I'm told these belonged to an old coffee machine.
Painted with a white primer and then sprayed with metallic silver paint. Decorated with beer bottle tops and gold ribbon.
Before... an old lampshade found on the street by a friend.
A new look for my daughter's old shoes using acrylic paint.

A fun upcycling project I did with the kids during the first lockdown in 2020. Our bird house made from an old foot stool, candle holder and various other recycled wood. Sadly I forgot to take 'before' photos.

An old cupboard turned into a shoe shelf. Decorated with a colourful fabric. The feet were created by taking off wooden panels from inside the doors. The doors were then attached to the back of the shelving unit to make the item more stable.
